Yah’guudang
is a Haida phrase that means “respect for all living beings,” and has driven the sensibilities of the Haida people since their beginnings on the islands over 13,000 years ago.
Their physical and spiritual relationship with the lands and waters of Haida Gwaii, their history of co-existence with all living things is what makes up Haida culture.
Flying to Haida Gwaii you pass over many islands and coastline completely devastated by indiscriminate logging and shameful disregard for mother earth.
In order to survive we must respect the ancient wisdom of our elders and honour the responsibility we hold to future generations.
